Russian Environmental Partnership Project - Goals and Objectives

Goals: Promote sustainable, whole-system approaches to meeting human needs and protecting wilderness

  • promote sustainable energy
  • strengthen protection for mountain territories and wildlife
  • empower indigenous peoples
  • strengthen cross-cultural collaboration, both within the region and between the region and the US

Objectives and Methods: Support the creation of sites demonstrating appropriate energy technology, serving indigenous populations, and helping protect wilderness areas

  • promote sustainable energy
    • supply computer and energy technology and expertise to NGOs
    • assist in the creation of sites demonstrating sustainable energy technology
    • train others to install, utilize, & maintain sustainable energy technology
    • fund the publication of educational & promotional local-language materials
  • strengthen protection for mountain territories and wildlife
    • fund publications and public presentations about local nature protection
    • organize service projects bringing US volunteers to protected territories for hands-on support work;
    • supply computer and energy technology to protected territories
    • support infrastucture development for small-scale local ecotourism
  • help indigenous peoples preserve and protect their lands and cultures
    • sponsor seminars on civil rights of indigenous peoples, including land rights
    • sponsor celebrations & gatherings promoting cultural restoration for youth & elders
    • supply computer technology to NGOs and individuals advocating for indigenous people's rights
  • strengthen cross-cultural collaboration, both within the region and between the region and the US
    • support multicultural local initiatives towards the other above objectives
    • bring US experts and stakeholders to region for training and mutual education
    • bring key regional activists to the US for info-gathering and contact-building

Overall methods:

  • collaborative program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • hands-on, direct, service-oriented approach
  • preference for solutions that address several needs simultaneously
