This project offers grants to those who are working to preserve and develop
the cultures and the land of the magnificent Altai. This project is in
response to the proposed pipeline across the Ukok Plateau and the
hydroelectric station planned for the Katun River (as well as the ongoing
erosion of Altai culture). The trajectories of these two massive projects
lie in the pristine wild lands and historic-cultural relics of the Altai
people who inhabit four separate countries, Russia, Kazahkstan, Mongolia,
and China. SEN funding for this project includes a gathering of representative elders
and leaders at an annual conference with the purpose of developing unity and effectiveness in protecting their culture and sacred lands.
